There really is no stopping LEON and his FUTURA label. Releases are coming in thick and fast, with the third ready to go less than a month since the last. One can’t help thinking there is plenty more to come in rapid fire, an exciting intro for the Italian platform. But for now, let’s take stock at number three. Argentinian artist Agustin Alvarez teams up with Andy Catana on the Morale EP.
Alvarez has had huge support over the years from a long list of Trommel favourites. tINI, Raresh, Luciano, Valentino Kanzyani and Archie Hamilton have all been known to play his deep, dubby grooves. Now he joins the FUTURA family, itself growing ever bigger with Harry Wills and Politics of Dancing invited to remix.
Hard hitting bassline kicks it off, enlaced with a deep growling groove. Chord notes flitter with delay over the top, making for a satisfying blend of the naughty and the nice. Truly one for dancing, as house elements infuse with swing-led percussion.
Warmer pastures spring to mind as hollow synth moves delicately over the beat. Day time moments will feel this, coming for release at the right time as we celebrate the Summer. ‘Know Your Limits’ is a little lighter in flavour than the title track, although the sweet euphoric notes remain.
Harry Wills takes ‘Morale’ to a more minimalistic level, chugging with determination through its musicalities. Politics of Dancing fuse in their signature, uplifting house grooves on their own interpretation of the premiered. As an EP, there’s plenty to go at.
