Not to be confused with the late Renaissance composer of the same name Ibizan based artist Luigi Rossi now lands on Sous-Vide Records. Already on to their tenth edition Sous-Vide Records brings Luigi into the fold where he joins artists such as label bosses Dolbah and Skjaerstad, RQZ and 001 artist Mica (UK).
The three track EP begins with ‘Diver Cow’ a fairly abstract modular musing but as is always the case a well-timed kick drum brings everything into focus nicely. Detuned synths tumble over rock solid drums, but it is not until the first drop that the clipped string musical elements begin to drop into the mix that things begin to heat up. The vocal snips are a nice touch too and help to move the track in a sideways fashion.
‘Rotten Sheep’ is straighter affair but still benefits from a similar sound palette from before. The dark basslines here signify a more heads down approach but the flashes of vocals brighten up the mood even momentarily. Zaps and raw synth tones seem to randomly fall through the track but there is always method in the madness.
‘This and That’ boots right off with a downright funky bassline that underpins the entire track. The wonky undertones of the EP continue here and the detuned nature of the synths and jumbled drums give some serious swagger and like all tracks on Luigi’s EP they are built for minimal heads to lose their minds to. Special mention also goes to Pheek on the mastering dials who squeezes everything out of the track and lays it bare.
