London-based label Superfiction Recordings is back with a two tracker EP produced by co-owners Italoboyz. It announces the first project of a revamped series of physical and digital EPs produced by one half of the project, Marco Donato.
Him and Federico Marton started their journey together back in 2002. Originally from Italia, they later established themselves in London. “Superfiction is a concept that subconsciously started over 20 years ago,” they say. 2022 comes as the tenth year of the label and “as it’s aged, it aims to stay eternal and timeless,” they add. “With this label there is a strong emphasis placed on longevity – Superfiction is not about trends.”
All this time, Superfiction has been the house for their own production and collaborations with other artists for remix duties or B sides. Their catalogue reflects their vision of where modern electronic music is, or could be. “Releases on the label will be influenced by every possible music via [our] own view and perspective of Techno, House, Breaks, Electronica, Chill Out and “Funk… lots of Funk… Disco-y. Very jacking, sometimes trippy,” they add.
As part of Superfiction018, ‘Groovy Box’ is a high-energy piece that explore the boundaries of electronic music genres. As it starts off on a house vibe much likely ready to bump, it shifts slowly to a darker atmosphere and before you know it you find yourself listening to a trancey track. As surprising as it is, the track transitions perfectly and is definitely one to keep in your bag for the afterhours.
