Alex Font’s reputable Acmé label makes its return after a short hiatus, curating a stunning remix package featuring Cezar Lazar, DeWalta, Mihai Pol and Jack Wickham.
Often keeping music close to home in the tight-knit community of Romanian artists, official releases from the Understand boss are a sparse sighting. Returning under his given name Cezar Lazar, the veteran carries Font’s latin influenced ‘Randolph’s’ into heads down, medicinal minimal territory.
A brooding low end glides between firm kick patterns, casually drifting between broken beats and 4/4 as if forming foundations for the sea of tripping textures above. Otherworldly sounds surface with ease, accompanied by eerie vocals and ceremonial percussion parts, remnant of an endless morning afterparty.
Font’s original ‘Interstellar’ receives two fresh flavours on the release. DeWalta pummels through bass-heavy paces littered with introspective atmospheres, whilst Mihai Pol injects clever vocal work on the flip.
Jack Wickham concludes the package with a delightful funk-riddled rework of ‘Justified Cause’, alongside a tripped-out bonus original track ‘Vertigo’ from Acmé boss Alex Font.
