When the latest release from Love Ensemble Quatuor landed in our inbox, it served as a timely reminder of how quickly things evolve. Nearly six years ago, we introduced their debut, a project from a fresh collective formed by five artists. Fast forward to today, and although the lineup has shifted to four, the essence of their sound remains just as refined.
Love Ensemble II delivers three original tracks from the quartet, now releasing as their solo monikers – ICTV, Nephews and DimSum. Returning to DimSum’s own label, Addictive Pleasure Real Healing, the release feels right at home. Two remixes brighten up the EP even more, both coming in hot from firm Trommel favourites. Gio Maulini brings a twist of breakbeat to ‘Love Ensemble Theme’, whilst Trent Voyage injects some serious heat into ‘Elevated Workout’. On the premiere, we spotlight the latter.
From the very first beat, snappy drums spark attention, setting the stage for heavy groove. A bold, rolling bassline soon takes charge, packing weight enough to shake up the floor. Growling energy keeps the momentum high, pushing forward with force. Vocal chants amplify, injecting an extra dose of intensity. Lifting the vibe, before calming keys bring a playful contrast.
Clocking in at just over five minutes, there’s little time to be wasted — every bar drives the track forward with purpose. Voyage takes the playful elements of the original and amplifies them into a full-blown peak-time weapon, delivering a no-nonsense banger primed for maximum dance floor impact.
You can buy the record at Syncrophone as well as all the usual stores online. If you prefer a digital version, head to Bandcamp. Due for release on 14th February.
