Premiere: B2 – BEQA – Week End 2 [MR.B002]

Emerging, but already recognizable label Mr.Banger (remember that name, you’ll hear something more from them soon), after hosting DOTT on their inaugural release, decided to give the spotlight to some other four capital letters. That means that today we’re welcoming the talent from Georgia under the name of BEQA. You could see the split between BEQA and Ukrainian crew Sonic Resistance on ANTAM Records, this time – he’ll be just fine alone.

We’re going straight to the end of the EP to pick “Week End 2” there. A slow roller with a piece of acid and some funkiness inside. This and also those occasional hood shouts here and there on the track kinda look like a variation of how Snoop Dee Oh Double Gee would sound under the groove of 125 BPM or something like that. You know, that type of lazy Sunday in your friend’s backyard, making some BBQ or whatever you would eat at that type of after party.

But the opening of the EP is a bit more energetic. Not a Sunday in the hood, but, let’s say, Wednesday. You and your guys are deciding to do some breakbeat business. That’s “Hold”. The follow-up “Standalone” is another delicate roller, but this time, it seems, it has something to hide. Probably, this “something” will emerge on a bit bigger soundsystem, than the one in my room. The last one in this review – “Toy Boy” is all about breaks and scratches. And that, I must say, is a killer combination here.

The record is ready to be reserved. You can do this, for example at Deejay or some other suitable places. Wherever you’re buying your wax. And, by the way, prepare yourself for the next one from Mr.Banger. At least one.

This article was written in Ukraine. Ukraine is in the middle of the war with Russia right now. It would be great if you could donate to the biggest Ukrainian volunteer fund here. Also, you can pick any music initiative, that is also trying to help from our list here. We’ll be stronger together.
