VRNT has been steadily expanding its catalogue, carefully curated by April Terry, aka Topology. Now based in Scottsdale, Arizona, after making the move from Canada, the label has become a trusted source for refined minimal sounds, featuring artists like Dragutesku, Pheek, Jay Tripwire, Miroloja, and Maher Daniel. Today, we’re checking out the latter’s latest contribution.
Maher Daniel steps up for a remix of Topology’s ‘Vika,’ delivering a version that both contrasts and complements the original.
In its primary form, ‘Vika’ is a deep, bubbling groover, twisting through a warped world. Sinister edges trickle through the bars like a meandering stream, unsettling yet for sure thrilling for those dark, sweaty moments in the club. This is tantalising techno, laced with mechanical textures and growling undertones.
Maher Daniel, known for his ability to craft intricate, hypnotic grooves, takes a different approach in his rework. His remix breathes light into the track, softening the edges with warm, enveloping pads. The eerie whispers of the original become more like a soft caress. All the while, the groove remains intact, more subtle, yet more refined. A complete re-imagination, that shifts the mood entirely.
A key figure in the underground scene, Maher Daniel has built a reputation through affiliations and partnerships across the world over, whilst serving up releases on his own imprint The Other Side and a whole host of others. His productions often balance depth and energy, making his touch a perfect fit for VRNT’s evolving aesthetic.
Both versions of ‘Vika’ offer something unique – one dark and brooding, the other smooth and atmospheric. Like the rest of VRNT’s output, this is a vinyl-only, limited press release. Grab your copy while it lasts.
