Purple Print may be a fresh face on the block, but they are represented in their launch by an established player in the game. Although little is known about the label itself, Romanian staple Sepp is the one taking charge to get things started right.
At Christmas, Sepp became Santa momentarily, delivering an ‘own productions only’ mix on the Trommel podcast. The gift continues to give. A true master in his field with a mind forever fuelling ideas, his minimal grooves are second to none. A welcome introduction in fact for a new label just starting out in the world.
Star Wars fans in particular will like this one. Imperial Star EP features four of Sepp’s own productions, each dedicated in some way to the epic space saga. ‘Batuu’ tells the story of another planet far, far away…
Textured layers build casually over an ever-present groove. As the snappy rhythm marches firmly, clouded analogue fizzes, grumbling beneath simple floating melodies and a rolling percussion.
Pulsating bassline is almost camouflaged by the concoctive blend of blurred sound, while vocal drives its own force. Warped conversation glitches calmly, growing into a tuneful chorus that uplifts behind an atmosphere building in a grand symphony. This is Romanian minimal at its fullest.
Imperial Star EP is cosmic and playful, an introspective look into a musical interpretation of timeless intergalactic fiction. You can almost picture the punters grooving down in the Mos Eisley Cantina.
Buy the record from deejay.de, decks.de, or Juno. Pre-orders are available, due for release in August.
