Costin Rp returns to Pleasure Zone Limited with another two-track stunner.
The Romanian brings the second instalment of his ‘Space Concept’ series on the label, exploring long-form, tranquil minimal works. Serene and mystical palates are coated with a vintage, crackly warmth inspired by the audiophile vision surrounding this corner of club music.
Sound choices are considered and carefully arranged around quirky, nonchalant percussion. ‘So Many Dreams’ showcases this unhurried, elegant approach that Costin Rp has been crafting for years.
The studio addict showcased the depth of his catalogue in June’s podcast, blending three hours and 20 minutes of solely unreleased productions.
Subtle, repetitive programmings encourage a submissive listen often experienced in the sets of the likes of Rhadoo and Barac, both frequent supporters of Costin’s work. Pensive sub-bass rolls between sleek hi-hats and an addictive, earthy cowbell loading the track with groove.
Embracing this long-form, nine-minute-plus arrangement becomes a catalyst for entering a hypnotic state. Polyrhythms begin to collaborate more and more as the track unfolds. Connecting via clever and delicate changes carving this dream-state affair that feels like tuning into a jam from a producer in full flow state.
Pleasure Zone has been a prominent taste maker in the minimal vinyl market. The German collective have curated a vast catalogue with the likes of Sepp, Vid and Archie Hamilton dating back to 2012.
A varied palate spreads across three outfits via the Pleasure Zone home label, and two sub outfits Limited and Treasures.
‘Later de seara’ brings a classy club cut on the A-side of PLZ007.2. Driven by a sleazy low end and placid atmospheres emitting a unique dancey, yet soothing mood. These extended works manage to create an immensely persuasive pulse, revealing just enough to keep the listener enticed.
