Kiev based label Artreform invite Brizman and Guy for their 41st release, featuring Priku on remix duties.
Taking things towards a more pensive direction, Priku reinvents ‘Midnight Tales’ in his elegant remix. Pinned by a pulsing low end, percussive work is lean and agile, showcasing his ear for creating a lot, from very little.
The Romanian slalwart has maintained a healthy output throughout the lockdown period. On top of a steady flow of Bandcamp releases, the Atipic boss recently curatied his own sample pack, as well as a huge collaboration with Traumer last year.
Intricate patterns are packed with character. Wrapping wood-like clicks and pops into moreish and peculiar rhythms, the seven minute piece feels over in an instant. Eloquent pads eventually wash over the beat, backed by lush ride cymbals and textures bringing a warm depth to the track.
It’s the strain of stripped back, hypnotising house music that can keep you hooked for hours. Progressions are subtle and patient, occasionally adding a hat or clap before dipping into brief breakdowns. This confident, loopy approach championed by much of the Romanian scene lures you in like a warm fire.
Brizman & Guy’s original cuts meander through more uplifiting and positive atmospheres. Bending trippy, agile basslines between dreamy chord work in the original ‘Midnight Tales’; the aesthetic remains within a similar laid-back, dream-state inbetween house and techno.
‘Shahada Funk’ lifts the energy in the A2, boasting a mean elastic bassline and crisp hi-hats gasping for a frothing dance floor. Artreform are a thriving presence within the electronic music landscape, consistently delivering versatile and interesting EP’s being snapped up by a plethora of selectors across Europe.
