Vitess is back on his own label Retro Futura with a four track EP of stand out material. The French artist has been producing inspired moments into the electronic, charging emotive pieces fed through his own experience and surroundings.
And there’s plenty of it. Last year, the busy producer served up 10 tracks on his first album, setting a delicate tone spanning between ambient and the dance. This blend of musical introspection and energy led house music makes for a well rounded package that continues into the next.
‘Calcio’ brings a rough and ready bassline that twangs a hard beat, spiked with groove. The story unfolding is a maverick show, narrated at the most meaningful moments. Italian dialogue and vocals by Giacomo XL spins the yarn of the character at play, as playful melodies dance through warming chords along the punching heart.
Organ synth builds into the break, leading into a powerful moment fed by a cheering crowd. It’s a pivotal part in the story, one that brings with it a burst of energy. This reaction to unknown performance makes for an opportunity of imagination, for exactly what could be at play. Whatever has unfolded, the soundtrack brings joyful moments to the floor through a retro flavour that makes the most of the highs.
