Premiere: A2 – Chris Carrier – Cloud Factory [AZE003]

Frenchman hitman Chris Carrier is a bit of a legend when it comes to groovey minimal house. Having been one of the first artists to release on the French house music haven Adult Only his rap sheet is amongst the longest and most well respected in the game. Having laid the foundations for labels such as Robsoul, Freakn’ Chic and Silver Network Chris is a sure-fire safe pair of hands and now he has turned his attention to a fledgling yet impressive label under the YYD umbrella – AZE.

For this third release from AZE, Chris Carrier delivers 4 quality house and deep house cuts. On the A-side, the French Producer opens up with “Precious” a classy house cut crafted with peaceful yet overpowering bassline combined with melodic synths and the beautiful singing voice of Nouha, a perfect concoction to remind the listener of the early uplifting days of house music.

On the second track, ‘Cloud Factory’ features seriously clipped synths and they only accentuate their grittiness by rubbing up against the lushness of the blooming pads. The bumping bassline dances around way beneath the shuffling beats with such a strong swagger the track seems close to derailing at points. This, of course never happens and Carrier gathers up the grooves with ease before throwing out even more old school vibes in the process.

On the B-side, ‘Upper Valley’ offers a serious groove. The track is built on a funky rhythm and layered electronic effects leading to a dreamy touch. The final track on the record ‘Pompeii Jam’ is an appropriate closing made with a growling bassline, hints of electro sounds, and melancholic synths.

You can grab the EP direct from Yoyaku’s Record Store.
