The festive period has begun and already in the spirit of giving, London’s Lonewolf is dishing out a few bits of tackle. Marking a busy week for the sister label of EYA Records, the next two EPs in the series are both being dropped in the coming days.
It’s clear the collective had plenty up their sleeve of late, having only recently released a rather large Wolfpack LP that served up six sides of wax. Next up, Superlux Records’ N Gynn delivers the seventh edition, Andrey Zots the eighth. His Molecules Of Life EP follows a repress of a previous offering back over on EYA, as he quite comfortably settles in to the family.
On the premiere, we have ‘Sign’. Low slung groove captures the beat as the bassline chugs. Determined in rhythm, soft pattering percussion sits under a heavy hitting snap. It’s stern in flavour, as a certain edginess shrouds that deep marching tone.
Warped horns blend with softer melodies, making for the right blend of naughty and nice. Darkness tinges echoed vocal, whirring sirens and metallic synth. This subtle combination of dark and light makes for one to empower the soundtrack, whilst breathing in pleasantries for the dance. It’s dreamy and gritty, all at the same time.
A similar theme follows in the rest of the record. Punching rhythms, acidic melodies and dirty grooves feature heavily. Fun fused and raucous, there’s little holding back.
Buy the ‘Molecules Of Life’ EP from Juno or deejay.de, due for release on Wednesday. In the meantime, here’s one made earlier on EYA.
