Vlad Bretan steps up for French label H24 Records’ third release, alongside a remix from Sepp.
The Parisian outfit has been pushing a sultry, after-hours sound with previous releases from a number of upcoming producers in the likes of Omul and Pedro Duarte.
Bretan’s contribution is a subtle tribute to the countless after-hours spent together with like-minded individuals, titling the EP ‘Not an ordinary Sunday’ packed with intricate tools perfect for the morning hours.
Premiered ‘Maybe’ is the most pensive of the three, pinned by an earnest bassline and regal guitar samples working closely with dissonant piano parts painting haunted, head-turning atmospheres.
Hints of classical music feature throughout the track, with an array of instruments seeping into the mix beside a perpetual, reduced drum pattern. Bretan’s approach to the sound design allows elements to breathe, with just enough subtle movement and swing to encourage a submissive, heads down listening experience tailored perfectly to the morning after-hour moments.
Similarly to many of the Romanian roster’s work, many sounds are dry and raw sounding, yet used in unique, inventive ways that can loop for minutes on end without growing sour. ‘Sundaze’ and ‘Justasec’ host a more playful vibe, coated with gorgeous chords and sleazy basslines.
Sepp brings his signature, mystical flavours in a conclusive remix of ‘Maybe’, filled with interesting polyrhythms and textures.
