Ukrainian label Artreform are celebrating 13 years of Artreform Records. A true cornerstone of the Ukrainian electronic music scene, the milestone follows their 50th release earlier this yea. And they’re marking the moment in the best way possible: by releasing more music.
Staying true to their long-standing love of wax, Artreform honour the occasion with a double VA package showcasing some of the finest homegrown artists. The first instalment in the 13 Year Journey series features Artreform family member Silat Beksi, alongside Brizman, Harald Björk, and Mad Dim & David Kareyan. And on the premiere, we’re treated to Mr. Beksi himself.
Beksi is an artist who has truly carved out his own sound. ‘iLLuminati’ boasts a melody-driven groove infused with classy feels that are soft and infectious. Captivating and hypnotic, with a hook that never loosens. Synths shimmer as warm keys dance over rattling percussion that lightly taps through the mood. Vocals echoing in fragments, drifting between gentle calls and enchanting narrative.
Moving through the record, Brizman’s ‘Music Saved My Life’ delivers the pleasantries only long, glowing chords can offer. Positive, uplifting moments supported by a polite, housey groove. Flip to the B-side for something more menacing: Harald Björk fires off a melodic blast through textured techno rhythms, a pulsating beat holding steady as layers rise and reshape around it. Closing things out, the deep, tripped-out minimal of ‘Time’ by Mad Dim & David Kareyan offers one final groove.
Together, this two-part release shines a spotlight not only on the sound of Artreform, but on the gratitude behind the label itself. A moment to acknowledge the artists, collaborators and listeners. And with a promise to keep on pressing, the Artreform story continues.
