Premiere: A1 – Mariiin – Fuori Controllo [VACU002]

Mariiin joins the Vacuity Records roster with a fierce breakbeat cut on their second various artist vinyl release.

The Paris based label headed up by Paola arrived onto the vinyl market with a sold out EP featuring four rising artists in Carriego, Stonem and Nicole. Inspired by cryptic, thought-provoking atmospheres, music is deep and intense, meandering through rave-inspired flavours and slick, classic drum machine sounds.

Continuing the various artist format, the second record invites Mariiin, Sekance and Alfafa, alongside repeat appearances from Carriego and Nicole. Keeping with the cerebral vibe, each track offers a unique and introspective mood with both eyes on the dance floor.

The Italian-born and London-based Mariiin has been crafting her sound within this sphere for a number of years now, playing regularly with Bobby and his Pleasure Club project, as well as linking with Jos’ EYA Records for a received solo EP last year.

‘Fuori Controllo’ is packed with fiery energy in this premiere. You can picture this revolution-like vibe soundtracking a scene in The Matrix as distorted acid lines flash across the groove and lawless percussion swings wildly over a beat flicking between broken and 4/4 rhythms.

It’s definitely a peak-time track, building patiently over the six minute arrangement, creating contrasts with lush sustained chords moulding with trippy vocal samples and a huge rave-ready bassline. You can picture the likes of Unai Trotti and Raffael Carrau lighting up the dance floors with this one. Not for the faint hearted.

Carregio brings a more pensive cut in their ‘Heavy Atmosphere’ track on the A side, deep moods for smokey warm-up or after-hour scenes. Sekance pick up the pace with a nimble, ninja-like cut ready for a frothing dance floor.

The flip side explores more techno-leaning grounds with first of all Sektance and “Ultra” as well as Nicole’s trippy ‘Jasmine’ exploration that wouldn’t sound out of place next to DJ Nobu’s mind melting techno. Alfafa closes with a similarly tripped-out excursion into deep and swampy realms to conclude this versatile and powerful EP.
