Portuguese label Hubble Recordings continue with their annual delivery of tackle. As they approach their fourth release, the collection is really starting to take shape. French duo Miroloja took the controls on the last one with a deep and eery remix courtesy of Vincentiulian. Now another Trommel favourite joins the ranks, as Costin Rp steps up for the latest.
The Romanian artist has often stood out as a highlight for good reason. With each release comes another beauty, carved with a signature sound that he has made his own. We might have mentioned it before, his Trommel podcast is quite exceptional. So we’ll mention it again. The sheer showcase of (at the time) unreleased tracks is a testament to his consistency as a producer.
Costin’s entry for Hubble comes in the form of two tracks. We have ‘Morning Distort’ on the premiere. A politely thumping roller from the start, the pulsating bassline is evidently his own. Groove swirls determinedly, captivating in its hypnotic beat. Minimalistic synth samples build on cosmic undertones, driving a journey through intergalactic realms.
Horns blend faintly into trickling pockets of percussion as synth lines twist deeper into the mystery. The ever-present rhythm comes complete with a texture that fills the ears with niceties, concentrated at a pensive breakdown. Brief, but just enough to mix motion from the flow of bass on either side.
‘Smooth’ is a little less serious, plodding along in playful fashion. Engulfed in groove all the same, higher pitched melodies dance a little more delicately. Distorted groove stems throughout Rosette Nebula EP, formulating another fine art piece.
Buy the EP from deejay.de, due for release on 21st June.
