French Uruguayan outfit Calzone Records presents the latest release on their hybrid music label. This next one comes courtesy of the digital space in the platform.
The Calzone collective superbly supports local artists, bringing up-and-coming talent to the fore. They are non-profit, using proceeds only to offer artistic growth where music is the bass line. This fosters and brings forth a journey of discovery and the artists at play are making more than the most of it.
The series continues with a well thought out EP from the founder of Calzone Records himself. Aubēn took time to craft this one, devoting moments in a boarding school bedroom, channeling a sound that merges the organic and electronic. ‘Carnet de liaison’ features four tracks, blending tasty house grooves with broader stems of jazz.
‘Piano’ takes the premiere, a track full of pleasantries smooth enough to drift right into. The groove keeps it quintessentially house, but it’s the melodies that make it so much. Keys dance all over this record, akin to a classic piece of the deep that you might have found back in the late 80s. He’s captured the niceties just right, only good feels and bright moments.
As a whole it’s a diverse EP. ‘Palabre’ makes more of a journey, fusing catchy guitar with meandering synth lines, lead you right down a wandering path. ‘Recreafter’ drives it that bit deeper, gritty and grumbling, laced with the most exotic of bongos. ‘Magma’ finishes things off with a firey mezcla, bringing flamenco together with the rave.
The EP is already out in all it’s glory – check it out now at Bandcamp.
