DJ 69 from Hypnohouse label recently launched another label, Shades Records, dedicated to the music from the past in full. But we’re not talking about the reissues, we’re here for some unreleased gold. Like this one from the classic name of Tom Parris.
Being very productive on the edge of the millennium, he has that signature mutant funk style, which is showcased in this release. “Double Drop, the main track today, for example, stays somewhere between progressive and electro sounds. It already looks like a prime-quality steak for diggers.
“Mutant Madness”, also from the B-side looks into the progressive side more, with a lean onto its darker side. “10th Planet” brings us something I was afraid of for a very long time – that “white noise” sound and the shuffle from the minimal era of the 00s (still sounds great). And “The Pentacle” somehow becomes the dubbiest and the most bigroom track on the record.
All of these tracks are gold – even without mentioning how long they were on the shelves. And it seems, we’re having a great start of another influential label. More to come, I hope. And you run to KMA60, Deejay, or Decks immediately – the record is out already!
