The Other Side has always been home to some of the most forward-thinking and downright talented artists from the world of minimal. Maher’s own production is the catalyst for the early output but it wasn’t long before he attracted the likes of Floog, Faster, and Dana Ruh to join his imprint.
There is also the small case of his ongoing work with Ricardo Villalobos and of course, their ‘Changes’ EP was always going to produce some of the labels’ highlights. The three-part EP culminated earlier this year and now the next big release comes in the form of the next long-player on The Other Side.
The double 12” ‘Marigot’ LP from Pheek and Kike Mayor is one hell of an album but then again this pair of artists are no regular artists. Pheek Kike have been working together for a while now and their ‘No Chance’ EP for Ubiyu is the tip of the iceberg. Their finely-tuned minimal style is the product of the pair’s insane sound design and mixing skills and with beautifully crafted tracks such as ‘Caveat’, ‘Solaris’ and ‘Bahia’ there is much more besides a collection of tightly woven beats.
The nine-track album also has a pretty cool story behind it too and tie so many aspects of the album together. Maher explains that when the pandemic hit he was faced with the near-impossible task of replacing guests Raresh and Ricardo Villalobos for his label showcase at SXM Festival. The result was him booking Pheek and Kike Mayor to play live and after seeing them perform their album live Maher signed it on the spot.
As well as each of the amazing original album tracks there is also a stunning remix package lined up too. There will be reworkings from the likes of Cabanne, Audio Werner, Mihigh, Lowris, Ricardo Villalobos, Flabbergast, and of course Maher Daniel. So this shaping up to be one of the releases of the summer and one that you definitely do not want to miss out on.
