Detroit has always been one of the pillars of electronic music, and one artist who is keeping the spirit of Motor City alive is Shaun Reeves. Founding member of the world-beating Visionquest collective, Shaun has never stopped in his musical evolution, and with this constant journey, he has developed a rather special series of parties called SHIFT. The ethos is simple: collect together a handful of his individually talented friends from all walks of life that make up this diversely talented collective and throw an outrageous party. Simple.
To date, there have been several SHIFT parties, and the guests involved will most definitely impress as they include legendary artists from Detroit and further afield across a multitude of disciplines. His right hand man and super human selector Stretch, and has been an ever present bedrock both in the Detroit scene and in the success of SHIFT.
More defining elements in the SHIFT experience is undoubtedly the venue and the sound quality. Often you can have one but not the other, but in this case both are of the utmost quality. From the multiple soundystems that inhabit Lincoln Factory (mostly Danley), to the turntable setup, SHIFT holds vinyl culture and its associated sub genres in the highest regards. This may sound like a given, but this is an often misexecuted requirement, not at Lincoln Factory. From the minds behind Marble Bar, Lincoln Factory is the perfect event space to play host to the huge incoming Memorial Day celebration taking place on Monday, May 26th.
For context, last year’s event brought together a stacked lineup including Scott Grooves, Mood II Swing, Maayan Nidam, Shaun Reeves, Stretch, Theo Parrish, Kyle Hall, Andrés, O.BEE & Tomas Station, Jonny Rock, and a Giegling showcase—alongside many other incredible artists who helped shape an unforgettable weekend. One of the most talked-about moments was Theo Parrish’s 7-hour set: a religious experience so powerful it blew one of ReSolute’s Danley subwoofers.
This year is going to be no different in terms of the calibre of talent; in fact, we dare to say that it might even eclipse it. With the roots of this legendary party laying with Visionquest’s fabled Movement Monday party which took place at Old Miami, that tradition is alive and well in SHIFT. Progressing this theme of music, art and collaboration, this year’s event will be bolstered by an unprecedented effort that includes Visionquest, Yoyaku, The Other Side, and ourselves. The results will be unlike anything currently available as all three stages, with special mention going to The Freezer area (picture below) which will house the sun burst open air action. Lincoln Factory will be utilised to its fullest potential to present a Memorial Day worth remembering. So, stay tuned for details of the work shift schedule, we recommend you start looking at flights to Detroit now.
