Sakanat celebrate five years in Cairo this Thursday

Event anniversaries unsurprisingly bring added excitement to the air. Another year in the making means a cause for celebration of continued success. And as the years add up, so does the anticipation. Egyptian party starters Sakanat meet their own milestone this week, set to toast to their fifth birthday on December 8th.

Any collective that has navigated the challenges faced in recent years deserves praise for coming out on top. Sakanat have not only continued their event series, but they have grown too as a label. And in line with his contribution for their upcoming fourth release, Egyptian artist Taher Medhat is serving up a free track for the festivities.

OK Williams at Sakanat

Looking back at the last five years reveals an impressive roster of talent. Previous guests have included OK Williams, Dyed Soundorom, Dan Ghenacia, Francesco Del Garda, Lamache, Ogazon, Sedef Adasi, Roza Terenzi, Virginia and Christian AB. Despite taking a long break from Cairo, the team have hosted more than 30 events, with a recent return to the capital.

Five years of Sakanat starts with Berlin based, Colombian born artist THC. A jam packed schedule sees the selector on the road for much of the festive period. Between Berlin, Singapore, Hanoi, Helsinki and London, this will be a first in Cairo city. Expect rapid rhythms and high energy from the Venus Vessels resident.

Support comes from local purveyors of the scene Mamadoo, Nour Fahmy and co-founder Aroussi. And the celebrations don’t stop there. Look out for SAKANAT004 coming soon from Taher Medhat, marking a debut EP for an artist well versed in the live. Contact [email protected] for more info on the upcoming parties and release.
