New festival concept Sophie to run through nine summer dates in Malaga

A mainstay in the world underground scene, the team behind the newly born concept Sophie Festival has for what seems like forever been at the forefront of large scale events.  A candid conversation about electronic music between three friends several years ago has now led to the birth of an exciting festival experience named Sophie, promising to take Malaga in a new direction.

Driven by underground music culture, Sophie will be taking place in the sun-kissed port of Malaga and with the city becoming an intrinsic part of Spain’s tourism hub it is time to realise the true potential of the area. With the team behind the venue being linked to the city for some time, they saw the lack of a large-scale music event as an open opportunity, “We realized the only thing this city was missing was a strong quality cultural proposal where we could have the perfect combination between music, nature, somewhere we could create long-lasting real experiences and connect with the environment, with other people and with our inner selves” says Giorgio Maulini, one of the founders of the project. “There was a big gap in the city that needed to be fulfilled. A place where we could offer an alternative cultural celebration of life.” He continues to state his case, “Don’t get me wrong, Málaga has a really rich cultural proposal for folkloric music as Flamenco, POP or Latin music but there wasn’t a place where we could feel identified with.”

The festival will be taking place every Sunday during July and August 2022, starting from mid-afternoon until early morning for a total of nine dates. They have already secured some outstanding guests who will perform across the whole summer, with more details to be announced soon.

The full array of confirmed artists that will perform behind Sophie brand new deck are: Paul Kalkbrenner, RPR Soundsystem, Apollonia, Seth Troxler, Jamie Jones, Enzo Siragusa, Craig Richards, Sweely, Nicolas Lutz, tINI, Dyed Soudoroom, Giorgia Angiuli, Mandar, Janeret, Traumer, Quest, Evan Baggs, Laurine & Cecilio, Gianmarco Orsini, O.Bee B2B Tomás Station, Rakim Under, Archie Hamilton, Giorgio Maulini, Chris Stussy, Huerta, Praslea, Dan Andrei, Gene on Earth, Sugar Free and many more to be announced.

However, for now, only the very first event is known with the date and lineup: on 3rd July Sophie will feature a headline set from none other than German legend Paul Kalkbrenner. You can normally find Paul performing to thousands at the biggest festivals in the world so a set from him at the opening edition of Sophie will be truly a moment to savour. Also, performing will be Giorgia Angiuli who will also be playing live and as always she will be mesmerising commanding her array of ingenious devices and instruments. Providing the minimal leaning vibes will be the triple threat of Mandar and the combined skills of Lazare Hoche, S.A.M. and Malin Genie will ensure the open-air setting of Sophie will positively sizzle. Finally, Yoyaku’s main man Janeret will provide his silky-smooth weapons to the proceedings as only he can.

Each lineup programme will feature a diverse approach, balancing industry heavyweights and staples of the international festival circuit side-a-side with the most interesting up-and-coming underground artists. This will automatically mean the debut of many artists and musical genres on the Malaga scene. A match made in heaven if combined with the exotic and versatile open-air venue, and the important infrastructures and beauties that the most populated city of the South of Spain can offer. Punters will have the chance to enjoy a sunny weekend in one of the nicest places to be in Spain.

Every aspect of Sophie Festival has been lovingly curated by the organizers to offer the finest electronic music experience to hit Malaga. From the crystal clear sound system, production and of course the on-point musical programming this signals a seismic shift in open-air events in the region, with the aim of offering a combination of “beach time, serious music and good memories this first edition of Sophie”.
