Bazar Bozar Festival touches down in Marseille, bringing two days of forward-thinking music to a new setting in the south. The festival comes from the Kumquat collective, a label, event series and booking agency.
For nearly 10 years, Kumquat has been offering club, open air and festival events. They have been behind several projects in the Ile-de-France region, including the first MisOver events at Île-Saint-Denis (3 years running), and last year’s ephemeral reopening to the public of the impressive Babcock factories at La Courneuve. This group of friends from the entertainment world has also been organising events in the South of France for the last 4 years, in Marseille and more recently in Montpellier. Today, Kumquat is one of the major promoters of the French electronic music scene.
The venue is a former art school, tucked inside the Parc des Calanques. It’s the first time it’s hosting a festival, a unique location that already brings a different energy to the weekend. Outside, there’ll be a stage under the pine trees, powered by Kumquat’s sound system. Indoors, a former workshop space will be transformed into a haven of sound with with the Ballistic sound system.
Original visual art has been created specifically for the event featuring collaborations with local students from Beaux-Arts de Marseille who will help shape the scenography.
The line-up is particularly interesting and diverse, from France to Romania & Uruguay, the unique curation leans toward ‘the DJs’ DJs’ type of heads with refined taste and a reputation for going deep. Saturday stretches out for 12-hours from 17:00 to 06:00 where you can expect both sunset and sunrise moments, one of which will be handled by the trusty Romanian selector Cap, known for his deep selections and storytelling sets.
Veteran house tastemaker and one third of the legendary Apollonia, Dyed Soundorom, brings his decades of dance floor knowledge to the table. Rising Ukrainian selector E.Lina joins the bill with her fiery charm, another soulful selector who weaves spice with tenderness in her emotive and passionate performances.
Barcelona-based Kinetic also joins Saturday’s bill. A regular at Houghton Festival and close affiliate with the likes of Nicolas Lutz and the Phonotheque collective, his spirited music brings an edge to this intriguing line-up.
Another fine Uruguayan DJ, Oriana, will also feature, adding another layer depth to the line-up with her spicy, nu-wave and punk-inspired music. Positive Future co-curator Poggio also brings his sultry cuts from the French capital, as well as the Paradise City Breakers trio.
Sunday steps into the world of deep house with Ayo’b and Robin Petitjean joining the legendary Desyn for a steady 10-hour jam from 4pm – 2am. Expect rare house gems from the 90s as well as fresh dubplates from Desyn and his slick edit culture. Tying this all together will be the resident trio of One Tough Cookie, and having been central to Kumquats success this event would not be possible without them.
