Everybody is well up to speed on Ukrainian artist iO (Mulen) and the caliber of productions that he effortlessly turns out. The same can easily be just said for his home label Mulen Records. This imprint’s discography is littered with absolute bomb releases, from artists such as OG Romanians Livio and Roby, Michael James, Alexis Cabrera, and Jorge Savoretti and of course the man himself it’s been a buy on sight kinda label since it launched in 2021.
The heady mix of shimmering retro synths, huge basslines, and more than a nod to the peak time house of the 90’s iO (Mulen) knows just how to craft bomb tracks. The good news is that he has crafted a whole album full of them for the next Mulen Records release. ‘Oldivibes’ is a snarling beast of an album and there are no filler tracks here whatsoever, no interludes, no token downtempo jams. No, not here.
From the first track ‘Exiting Distance’ with the lushly forlorn vocal samples, electro basslines, synth stabs, and raised BPM’s there is no messing from the get-go. Following quickly is a flurry of peak-time bangers that includes the deeper shades of ‘He’s In Love With Me’, the old school house groove of ‘Late Night Together’ and the backwards vocal and conga combo of ‘Sirenes’ Mulen has clearly been very busy in the studio.
The album has 12 tracks in total and it’s almost impossible to choose between them as they are all so bloody good. One thing that they all have in common is that ‘Oldievibe’ and it all sits in an upbeat super sweet spot between house and techno of yesteryear but with a truly impressive production flair that can be found in all of the Ukrainians productions.
