There’s something to be said about unusual spaces for dance. Dependent on preference, some will say there’s nothing better than getting deep into a dark and sweaty club. Music first, no frills needed. On the flipside, there’s a huge appetite for all the senses to be tickled. It becomes not just about the sound, but also the setting that envelopes it. Iconic London venue KOKO has combined the power of music and the arts, with the aim of providing such an experience. Who better to take over a such designed space than the masters of Romanian minimal, a:rpia:r.
KOKO had a serious upgrade ahead of its reopening back in 2022. A huge cash injection saw 70 million pounds of investment fund a three year project, transforming the Camden venue into the special scene that it is today.
The eye catching event space boasts a theatre style set up, complete with red draped curtains and a grand stage for spotlighting those serving up the sound. Although primarily a concert venue, the stylistic amphitheater makes for a superb setting to party and the finish is such that electronic music can thrive.
Raresh, Rhadoo and Petre Inspirescu have long since been commandeering such style of venue. Set to take over KOKO with their ever inspiring b2b2b blend, a:rpia:r will take centre stage. A rare opportunity to see them together in the UK capital, embellished by the presence of strongly affiliated Dreamrec visuals.
The setup is simple. Three veterans, longtime friends and purveyors of their own style of sound, mixing one record after another. An orderly fashion of deep, bubbling rhythms complimenting textured melodies. Winding pathways delving further into a minimalistic mountain, an ever popular genre shaped for the most part by the three at the helm. Providing the early vibes will be the duo of Mandana and PACH who will be playing b2b at this very auspicious event. For the Rominimal fans out there this is absolutely a night not to be missed.
