Throughout this whole, epically bad situation irony has certainly not been lost on the festival gods. On what is supposed to be “Freedom Day” a cruel and constant twist of scenario means that Houghton Festival has made the heart-wrenching decision to postpone their 2021 event until next year.
The event was set to take place between August 12-18 but with the supposed “road map” that was to lead us out of this mess not appearing this has left the music industry in disarray. With clubs reopening this past weekend it is a step, albeit very small towards the light big events such as Houghton just cannot go full steam ahead in the hope that all will come good.
Campaigns such as Craig’s Let Me Out Let Me In show that the support for the cause is unwavering but this alone is not enough to direct the tides in their favour. Houghton Festival and indeed much of the promoters, artists, and events that orbit Houghton Festival stand in solidarity with their stance and that it is just not feasible under the current guidelines to produce such an event safely. Believe that Houghton Festival WILL be back bigger and even better than before on 11-14 August 2022 and with three events rolled into one it will be magical.
