Breakfast Club has long been an infamous happening at the annual ADE festivities. Taking over raw, warehouse and DIY-like spaces, the morning-till-night marathon bring an old school approach that has gained a well-deserved reputation.
This year, the crew will set up camp in the mesmeric Hemkade 48 space that is steeped in rave history. The hypnotising space boasts an industrial aesthetic and won the promoter’s hearts over in an instant.
“Five areas, a myriad of possibilities, a humongous main, all these strange small rooms, booking big names in tiny places, an outdoor area on the water. It was the perfect place to lose track of time and space: defying all logic, and therefore making perfect sense.”
Hemkade 48 will be transformed into the Breakfast Club dream across two days, presenting two showcases on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd October. The artist curation at Breakfast Club is a fundamental driver in the appeal of their events. Always innovative, experimental and bold, creating interesting back-to-backs and combinations of artists flowing into one another each with extended sets on quality sound systems.
We heard from the collective’s summer plans back in June as they reimagined the weekender into three separate events with the likes of DJ Koolt stepping foot in a number of Amsterdam locations.
The tastemaking team arrive in full force this year inviting an extended selection of Ukraine’s Closer crew to take over one of the spaces inside Hemkade 48. Kyiv’s Closer venue has long been a staple in the underground community, championing freedom of expression in both the crowd, décor and the carefully curated bookings invited to express over extended sets on their supreme sound systems.
Breakfast Club is the next in a series of fundraising and supportive events for the Kyiv institution to survive and recover from the extremely difficult and tense situation in their country. The venue has been operating at a reduced rate since February, helping the community where possible with the likes of cooking food for volunteers and their decoration team crafting camouflage nets.
Representing the incredibly inspiring club will be a series of back-to-back sets from the club’s founders, residents and team. The notorious b2b of long time residents Borys and Noizar will feature, as well as Karine b2b Shakolin, Ponura b2b Timur Basha, Sasha Zlykh b2b Trippsy and a special live set from Volodymyr Gnatenoko.
Joining the Closer crew on Sunday is an array of mesmeric talent. Catch the likes of Jeff Mills and Robert Hood bringing the OG techno, Ethel b2b Melody spreading the RA+RE flavours alongside the veteran Silverlining and many more.
Trommel will be joining in on the action during Saturday’s showcase. Taking over the intimate side room, we will welcome Slapfunk regular Doudou MD, Sugar Free and a repeat showcase of Evan Baggs b2b Quest after their astounding set at our Manchester showcase in The Loft.
Saturday will also witness the likes of Dr Rubinstein b2b Freddy K, Jane Fitz b2b Spekki Webu, Z@P and Carl H among an esteemed list of artists ready to bring the space to life.
