Italian artist Lele Franza alongside compadres Ricky Leo, Luca Doobie, and Mechand his renowned Pennyroyal tea party event series had drawn some massive names to Milan over the years. Selectors such as Alexkid, Diego Krause and Christian Burkhardt have all turned out for Franza so the logical next step was always going to be the formation of his own record label of the same name. For the first edition, he has stepped up himself to present the opening release in PYR001 and to sweeten the deal he has enlisted Lukea and EWax boss YSC for remix duties.
We pick up the release in a back to front fashion where we focus on the Lukea remix of ‘Mellea’ on B2. This spacey groover is as hypnotic as they come and would sit perfectly in a Sepp set or even be mistaken for one his own tracks. The insistent rounded bassline fills out the bottom frequencies nicely with the cosmic sound fx flashing through the mix like meteors. Punchy drums are also the name of the game here and the background sounds do a great job of moving the track all manner of directions. The original version on B1 is a much more upfront beast. Gnarled synths and metallic sound fx roll off each other to create a much more peak time sound.
Taking it back to the top of the release and ‘Leaves’ on A1 is just as uplifting with a lovely note progression on the bassline and synth work. YSC turns in an excellent remix and it is clear why the EWax head is in such high demand as his shimmering ‘Autumn Days’ remix as he dials up the emotive aspect of ‘Leaves’ while not sparing on the banging vibes.
