Premiere: B1 – LVCA – Dean’s Grove [SPLX005]

SPLUX005

LVCA aka Luca Cazal joins the Superlux Records roster with a transformative four-track EP.

The Italian artist has been at the forefront of dance music for many years. Originally producing records for the likes of Crosstown Rebels and producing for established imprints, Cazal has a newfound alias ‘LVCA’.

Recent works under the new project have landed on the likes of Anthea’s Partisan, and Robert James’ Body Movement imprints. Exploring a new darker direction, Cazal’s sound has evolved into a more cosmic sphere, nurtured by the likes of Nicolas Lutz and Binh.

Superlux Records is a project from London ran by N-Gynn, Mike Gill, and Johnny Hunter, exploring a similar spirited path, making it the perfect home for Luca Cazal’s new venture.

Four unique, gritty tracks provide further insight into the world of LVCA. Dusty drum machine rhythms load the music with energy, thrashing snappy snares and loose hi-hats over ferocious basslines.

Cazal has been a long-time resident at Ibiza’s DC10, honing his craft behind the booth and regularly road testing new material. This experience seeps through into the production of the music. Sounds are precise and spacious, evidencing his seasoned relationship with club music.

Moving away from his larger-scale sound often associated with the Ibiza crowds, this EP is packed with intimate emotions. Sounds are warm and punchy, with obvious influence from the sound of the 90s, and machine-made, analogue production methods.

A confident bassline squirms between sharp percussion in ‘Notherplan’. Prior to eventually developing into a sludgy acid workout, a number of influences seep through into the music, showing signs of a producer in an experimental, expressive headspace.

Rhythms are loaded with a sense of urgency, whilst maintaining a sleazy bounce certain to get the floor moving. A retroverted influence can be heard in the percussion palate. The familar sounds of Roland’s 909 hi-hat fizz over the genre-founding sounds of the TB-303.

Garagey snares snap between the kick, occasionally backed by a new hat or clap, energy continues to build throughout the 6 minutes. LVCA explores a variety of emotions throughout this fiery EP. ‘Teep’ taps into a cosmic nature that could slot comfortably next to the likes of Matthias and his Superluminal imprint.

Given Luca Cazal’s experience both in the booth and producing records, this new, raw sounding project is an exciting prospect for music yet to come.
