Pleasure Zone boast a hefty back catalogue. The German label has developed into quite the family over the years, combining its Treasures and Limited series’ along with the main platform. Last year alone saw 14 releases across the three outlets, adding to an already long list of quality artists EPs from the likes of Funk E, Markus Fix and Subb-an. The latter featured as a Trommel premiere with the Dub version of ‘Overdrive’. Now, it’s the turn of Giorgio Maulini.
Soon after dishing out the goods in his Trommel podcast last year, we’re happy to see Giorgio Maulini making his debut on Pleasure Zone Limited. And it seems so is he, with said label being one of his all time favourites.
Named after a delicious corn snack native to Maulini’s home country Venezuela, ‘Arepa con Aguacate’ EP is made up of four tracks just as tasty. ‘N64’ takes the premiere, a catchy little number defined by a breakbeat rhythm. A groove rich bassline wraps neatly around the percussion while small synths build onto the top. The melody that develops is cool, a warm organ that combined with the deeper samples behind emanates dark undertones.
The EP as a whole is full of swing. ‘Famara Breaks’ on the A-side is deep and spacey next to the electro-charged title track. While back on the B is ‘Black Belt’, bassline heavy oozing with groove and depicting notes of garage.
