Premiere: B1 – DMC – Special Occasion [SUB013]

DMC - Subsequent cover art

Testament to the A&R associated with driving forward the sounds of the underground, Claus Voigtmann’s Subsequent label continues to showcase an array of new talent. As a DJ himself, Voigtmann is already much loved in the scene. His energetic, groove-fuelled sets have become sought after for any UK festival of this flavour and beyond. And when he’s not behind the decks, he is formulating future moves. DMC is invited along for the next.

The Liverpudlian artist was already previously spotted by Claus, clearly making an impression with ‘Love’ on Friends of Sub II. As a label, Subsequent takes focus on nurturing the new, blurring the boundaries of genre specifics. At the same time, it remains a place for friends and affiliates to take the direction of their choosing. DMC has done just that, now with four full tracks of his own available on wax.

‘Special Occasion’ opens the B side with a breath of the freshest air. Melodies dominate from all angles, from the deep grooving bassline to the playful vocal that dances between bars. Pitch moves higher in unison with energy. The positivity that flows through this one can only whet the appetite further, as that longing to be at one on those dance floors draws ever closer to becoming a reality.

Warm chords compliment synth line, cushioned by a deep, house beat and soft acid that steadily becomes fuller. As the lyrics of the title flutter in amongst the rising rhythms, everything just feels rather nice. DMC has us ready for the good times ahead, aptly timed for release and one that will resonate between those that are listening.
