After our trip to hookup with DOTT and Jay Sarayu in Bangkok for our first-ever Asian date, we could not wait to share with you the fine work that they are doing with their label and associated record store. The first is the next release from their label More Rice and it is a top-notch package of tech house and bubbling groovers. In the package are three wicked originals from co-founder DOTT and seriously well-crafted remixed from Sweely and Mr_Barcode aka Jay Tripwire.
With each track being a potential hit, the difficult choice of which track to focus on resulted in Sweely’s reworking of the title track “One Foot Forward”. It’s a bit darker than Sweely’s usual upbeat fare, but we are excited to hear more in this vein from the Frenchman. Taking the dark, bass-focused vibe of the original version Sweely smoothes things considerably, he also dispenses with DOTT’s rattling percussion and turns in a bubbling, houser but retains all the attitude and swagger of the original.
Elsewhere on side A, EP opener “Semintone Revolution” kicks off the release in an eerie fashion, with an upbeat groove that weaves together atmospheric synth, nicely cropped vocal clips and deep probing bass tones. An out-and-out club tool and no mistaking. Side B is dedicated to “About Quality Time”, in its original form this is an upbeat and dusky summer banger. The intricate emotions at play throughout evidence a bitter-sweet story as told at peak time at a wicked party.
The flip comes courtesy of Jay Tripwire’s Mr_Barcode alias and the legendary artist really puts this track through the ringer. As if being listened to through a Mr Barcode filter, heavy processing is used to put the track elements through the right amount of stress to provide that Mr Barcode uniqueness. This is amplified with punchy drums and succinct percussion.
