The duo of Julian Ripoli and Gianni Ripoli have long been part of the setup at Yoyaku in its various forms, events and labels and they now deliver the four tracker ‘Mr. Vibes’ EP for the main imprint. Incredibly the French powerhouse delivers its eighth edition with the Ripoli brothers at the dials. Here they deliver a wide cross section of house music in all its electronic glory.
Heading straight for the upbeat grooves of title track ‘Mr. Vibes’ and the heading seems to fit perfectly. The sprightly stabs, revolving hi hats and tight grooves paint a picture that is best viewed from a packed-out dancefloor in the throes of an early morning session. Deep bass tones underpin things while a playful female vocal sweep in and out of the mix ensuring the atmosphere is kept light as a feather.
A1 ‘Eternal Lights’ is just as airy but in a totally different direction. Liquid like synths and pads encircle each other while effected vocals push and pull the track in a multitude of ways. Subtle drum programming produce a heady trip that ebbs and flows effortlessly as only the Miroloja lads can. Flipping over and a more 90’s house sound is presented in ‘Aesthetics’, the clipped hats and bumpy bassline really dial up the vibes to 11. To close out the record ‘Mesmerized’ descends into the lush minimal depths with thudding kicks, gated synths and a repeating vocal stutter that really does do what it sets out to.
