Federico Molinari kick starts a new vinyl label together with DFUNKLUB.
Heading up the first release with a quirky four-tracker, the Berlin-based artist showcases his ear for cruisey, acid-tinged house music packed with character.
Molinari has been at the forefront of Berlin’s minimal and micro scene for well over a decade, both with his largely influential Oslo imprint ran with Nekes, alongside countless pivotal releases for the likes of Raum Musik, Pressure Traxx, and many more.
‘Bassline Generation’ slows the pace down in this featured A2. Given away by the track’s title, a slimy, laid-back bassline leads the charge throughout the near seven minutes.
Playful vocal samples meet with subtle chord stabs and a simple pad sequence setting a lush, warm atmosphere in this cut that could perfectly warm up a set, or give the dance floor a comfortable breather.
Molinari maintains this quirky, stripped-back vibe across the A-side in the acid adventures of ‘Noveno’. Cruisy 808 patterns sling over stunning chords lathered with the same inviting warmth.
It’s the kind of intriguing, retro-sounding house track that could be heard at the likes of Robert Johnson being played by the Pager & HardWorkSoftDrink crew, or Francesco Del Garda teasing a packed club.
Peak party time becomes more present on the record’s flipside. ‘Dosificado’ works a squirmy bassline with crafty acid lines and snappy percussions ready to tear up a club system.
Molinari’s experience within club culture is evident throughout the record, crafting lush, home-listening friendly cuts just as eloquently as steamy club heaters. ‘Tritter’ keeps the dance floor in sight in the conclusive cut, working curious chords over more squelchy acid action.
Look out for more gems to come from this new label venture, headed up by dedicated veterans of the game.
