Number six in Prozpektiva series by KMA60 sends us to South America, where Victoria Lanza, also known as Pi, their new addition to the roster is from. EP, made in Montevideo by one of the very bright talent from the continent, I would say. She already has appearances on Holistico, White Scar and Lutzifer (!), now it’s time to check her solo release.
“Retrospective”, the opener of the EP, is made in her signature style – a little bit dark mix of techno, electro, house, and breakbeat (ok, maybe without breakbeat here, but we’ll have more a bit later), with additional kinda disharmonic sounds added, but on purpose, which makes the track even more interesting. Add here also these melancholic but somehow uplifting melodies and killing basslines that give a nod to acid and electro-house buzzing simultaneously – and we have a winner.
“The Future”, also on the A-side, is much more aggressive, stepping into some techno side with both legs and the vibe of early Gesaffelstein. “Bizarre” opens the flip with all its bleeps, and is leaning into the electro side more, obviously. And “Riot Rhythm” combines them all, adding a very nice conversation (always love those) into the ensemble.
If you still haven’t, I would also urge you to see Mudd Show recording of Pi. And then – go straight to Juno, Deejay or KMA60 store. It seems that she’s here to stay.
