London outfit Untold Stories, have a strong community mindset when it comes to their well-attended events across the capital. Their previous guests have included Liquid Earth, Junki Inoue, Marlie, Just Jam, and Rhythms Of Prescott, as well as two excellent residents in the form of founders Axel S and Sonus who steer the creative nous of the brand. They now present the next stage in their journey and that is a finely curated vinyl-only label and they are now ready to drop their debut release.
Beginning with A1 track from Lebanese star Nesta and with a remit for groove-packed tech house firmly on the table that is exactly what is on the menu. “Bouchees A La Reine” gets straight to the task at hand and that is moving the room. Slinky synths are juggled expertly with a large dose of sub-bass and a funky b line that instantly catches the feet and ear. Keeping those sweet daytime vibes fresh in mind for the long-awaited warmer times, this track is a timely reminder that better weather is just around the corner.
Joining Nesta on side A is label co-founder Axel S and his track “Loving You” segues in nicely from where the previous track left off. Tweaked percussion warps and bends under the strain of the deep probing sub-bass, while the accompanying vocals drip minor tones all over the grooves like honey. The crisp beats respond in kind almost like a call and response with the message coming across loud and clear.
Flipping over the 140g lush green marbled record you will find fellow co-founder Sonus on the dials with “Something Nice”. Dreamy could not be a more fitting word to describe the action here, elongated piano notes, deep bounding bass tones and nicely clipped vocal samples lead towards the more dancefloor-focused main section. It is here where the true nature of the track is revealed, but there is no forgetting that dream sequence which thankfully reappears in all its glory.
Completing this fine debut release from Untold Stories is a joint effort from the French pairing of Raphael Scemama and Tournissoux. We won’t spoil the fun of the hunt, but their edit has been boiling dancefloors since promos began hitting the USBs of our favourite selectors. To celebrate the release of their first EP Untold Stories will be throwing a launch party in London next month, so keep your eyes peeled for more info on that.
