Part of the Bizarre Trax crew Jhobei has been on fire lately. With a string of hot releases in his locker for picnic and Truly Madly’s Mind Helmet imprint he is also a regular at London’s more jumping house events. His tracks pack in a huge amount of energy and his new addition to his discography takes the form of his A1 banger for new Amsterdam label – Locked In. Also on this impressive first release is a trio of rising producers V. Stuparenko, N-Gynn, and Garouda.
On the lead track ‘EBV’ Jhobei goes straight for the jugular with a future retro electro tinged weapon. Hi toms punctuate the snappy snares and breakbeat drum programming nicely during the intro and the thumping bassline that enters during the main sequence is so satisfying. Spacey twinkling synths dance over high above the vocoded voice anchors the rest of the track. Following on is Ukranian artist V. Stuparenko and ‘Untitled 03’ is just as bass fuelled but with uniquely tribal side to it. Definitely a track that is sure to stand out in a mix thanks to its off-kilter programming and a vibe that will easily take the dancefloor by surprise. Flipping over and hotshot N-Gynn has also delved into the archives for influences on ‘Morag’. A huge rounded bassline sits center of the picture while 90’s rave-esque synth stabs are deployed. Rounding out the first release from Locked-In is Garouda and his uplifting house bomb focuses on the delightful organ bassline and the warped percussion cuts right around it.
