Look back at the last decade of underground house and techno events in the UK. You might easily say Art Of Dark find themselves at the top of the list of some of the most prolific party starters. A collaboration with London top underground spot FOLD has seen them host huge nights, regularly featuring the biggest names in minimal and electro breaks. As can be quite a natural progression for some event brands, the AOD outfit began releasing records back in 2018. Recently we featured the premiere of their sixth release and number seven from DAWL is not far behind.
DAWL (aka Darren Woollard) takes the helm for this one, commandeering both sides of the 12″ vinyl. His Tone Dropout label is home to some electro fuelled bangers and AOD are on a similar playing field. DAWL is sure to feel at home here with his four track EP, Something’s Going To Happen.
The title track has all the elements one might expect from the associated electro breaks sound, a flavour which has been creeping to the forefront of the minimal scene over the last few years. Drawing on elements of the old school beat, ‘Something’s Going To Happen’ has that eery, acid tinged electro bassline energised by a simple, snappy breakbeat snare.
A little melody bleeps in transportation to other realms while extra terrestrial splatters sound underneath. This is a deep frequency energy that would slot in nicely at the afters. The old vocal sample questioning “what does it all mean” is sure to feed those exuberant, mid-morning minds.
You can purchase the record at Juno, decks.de or deejay.de. Expected release date 4th August.
