Premiere: A1 – Alexander Robotnick – Jette Le Masque (Extended) [BOSCO056]

Longstanding pillar of the Italian and worldwide electronic community Alexander Robotnick and Bosconi Records return to our pages with a special reinterpretation of his 2007 CD “My La(te)st Album”. Featuring tracks from this previously available release, the chosen works have been remastered for vinyl and are now presented via Bosconi Records.

We open our review of this special release with the only track to be offered up in a slightly different format. “Jette Le Masque (Extended)” is, as the name suggests, an extended version purposefully extended for dancefloor use. The weaponised arpeggiated synths hit hard and the hushed French lyrics add to the impact as do the stunning synth stabs.

Elsewhere on the release, “We Love The Music” Robotnick’s timeless electro style belies the fact that this work is around 20 years old. Squelchy synths and room shaking grooves remind us of his brilliance and his knack for crafting vocoded genius.

Flipping over to side B and there is a further three cuts from 2007 with “I’m Getting Lost In My Brain” and while the run time of each track is relatively short a whole lot of action is crammed in here. The insistent beats coupled with the 303 line conjure up all manner of memories from a time in music that seemed simpler and care free. Not playing it straight for too long, it is not long before Robotnick switches things up with the subtle musicality that he is so well known for.

B2 “A Coffee Shop In Rotterdam” brings the pressure down a bit in line with the track title. Low slung and noisy snares keep time on a sultry synth pad that swirls around a bubbly synth motif that soars into action around the midway point in the track.

Completing this time capsule is “Addio Addio” and Robotnick returns to heavy hitting form once more. While the lead out of the track hints at a fire breathing electro techno monster, it is not long before a curveball with Italian flair is served up. One aspect of Robotnick’s work that will always impress is his ability to switch up emotions mid way through a track, but bring things back to the dancefloor with a thump.
