Premiere: 4 – Andrea Deppieri – Morning In Paris (Terence :Terry: Remix) [OBL026]

Having grown a rather impressive discography in a relatively short space of time, Venice based label Oblivium Records boasts a raft of rising talent as well as a remix appearance from one Luciano. For their latest outing their welcome to their ranks Andrea Deppieri, an artist with a clutch of well received EP’s to his name and his “This Is Love?” EP is the newest jam on the list. Featuring three original works and remixes from label regular Nicola Brusegan, Camilo Gil, and Frenchman Terence Terry.

Taking charge of today’s exclusive is the Terence Terry remix of Deppieri’s deep houser “Morning In Paris”. Where the original version is deep and low slung, Terry kicks things up a gear and turns the direction down a more breakbeat route. Rattling snares and brooding synths signal the arrival of a serious amount of sub bass. Sparingly utilising the original musical elements, one part that has been nurtured into more of a theme is the drama that comes from the looped drone. It is a simple element but it really helps to set the tone in both the original and Terry’s remix.

Following on from the first original work on the EP, “Is It Love?” treads similar ground in that the sultry swagger bleeds from every swung snare and reverb tail. With a more dubby edge, this tells the story of a deep rooted session that will take something truly monumental to stop the dancefloor moving. Camilo Gil turns this on its head with a much more upbeat 90’s house flip and the magic that he sprinkles over it has shades of FIlter House, as well as Garage.

For the third original works by Andrea, we find him in a mesmerizing mode with “Pills”, hushed voices soon gives way to sublime pads and a satisfyingly grinding bassline that never goes too far but helps to push attitude into the track. Nicola Brusegan’s version of the track doesn’t mess with the formula too much, but instead of leaning on the pads the focus is laid upon the bumpy bassline.
