LEON’s FUTURA imprint continues to impress with the fourth release and they make good on their promise of mixing emerging talent with bonafide legends. The new element of the equation is taken care of by Roof Club regular LUCIO. The Italian producer makes a big impact with his 90’s tinged ‘Out of Myself’ EP and the package is added to by more new talent in the form MADVILLA and legend Marc Ambrose completes the release.
It is the remix from master Marc Ambrose where we pick up the release. Marc has been truly instrumental in the formulation of UK’s tech house sound and since the late 90’s the output from his Crayon imprint has been nothing short of essential. This proto tech-house blueprint is clear as day in his reworking of ‘Panic Zone’ and the nervous drums and blown-out basslines really set the track on edge from the beginning. Where LUCIO’s original takes a more warehouse direction Marc steers his version in a much tougher analogue direction.
Also, taking aim at ‘Panic Zone’ is American artist MADVILLA and his trademark groovey style is unleashed. The edgy pads repeat and bloom throughout the track while riddims pepper the track throughout its run time. The smart use of the vocal samples filters in and out of view shifting the ear with it.
Sticking with the 90’s grooves LUCIO rounds out his first foray on FUTURA with his second original ‘Mystic Area’. He drops in some wicked vocal samples amongst tight punchy percussion, banging drums, and some downright dirty bass tones. LUCIO’s EP joins a fine discography that is growing better with every release and with FUTURA’s first event announced for October 23rd at London’s E1who will be linking up next?
LUCIO’s ‘Out of Myself’ EP is available via Beatport from August 20th.
