If you haven’t heard of Vloon before then you sure as will soon and a lot more often. His intricately rhythmic style has been picked up by the likes of Drumma, Vatos Locos, Tzinah Records and now Kiku Digital has looped in Vloon for a killer tow track EP.
B1 ‘Mou Momo’ wastes no time at all in putting the low-frequency grinding bassline to work. It’s this bassline that acts as the anchor for the rest of the track and the bleepy sung percussion that dances in and around the path of the basslines. It is one of those absolutely irresistible grooves that doesn’t tend to shift too much from the path it is on but the arrangement just can’t be beaten. Delayed pads and stabs add to the flowing atmosphere and the end result is a fantastic piece of dreamy minimal house. It is little wonder that the likes of Cosmjn, Mihai Pol, Na Zau, Herck, Costin RP, Janeret, Triad, and XXX Culture have been throwing their support behind the release.
A1 track ‘Red and Bue’ is just as intricately groovy and benefits from a more upfront techy sound palette. The mixing of the drums is especially tidy and there is a real sense of depth with the bassine given plenty of room to do the intended damage. The background atmosphere is fairly subtle until there is a bit of a handbrake turn in the middle of the track and a snare roll really catches the attention. The aftermath is a concoction of thudding kicks and a mystical backward string instrument playing out an almost magical motif.
The ‘Vloon’ EP is now available exclusively via Bandcamp.
