Premiere: 2 – Hendriks Toth – Candolim [SVRSR011]

Norwegian imprint Sous-Vide Records return with another forward-thinking EP this time from Bratislavan artist Hendriks Toth. Past artists to have graced the digital imprint have all tread a fine line between minimal electronica and dancelfloor heat. This release is no different and regular visitors to these pages will know Hendriks from his recent smash outing on Habits Records.

A master of the minimal groove Hendriks weaves a hypnotic story throughout ‘Candolim’ and tabla percussion, ethereal chanting rubs up nicely against distorted synths. Abstract sound FX add to the juxtaposition of the soundscape that Hendriks has crafted. Perhaps one of the deeper tracks ‘Candolim’ on the EP and Vincentiullan remix is on a totally different plane. The cosmic vocals are condensed and melded into the floating pads that run throughout the track. The snaps of gnarled synths from the original also make an elongated appearance and in true Vincentlulian style the results is a bomb.

‘Kyoto Sequence’ takes it back to minimal style but with a bit more swagger and punch. Tumbled drums, blooming pads and synth stabs are punctuated by Japanese musings which may need some translation but the meaning comes across just fine. Last on the docket but by no means the lesser of the EP is ‘Understand’ and again Hedriks shows just how talented he is when it comes to sound design and crafting the most intricate of sound palettes.
