Dreams On Wax hit another milestone release with a typically expansive VA to showcase the many shades of their sound for their 40th edition. As well as the focus track from Gunnter, there is a host of usual suspects on display from Enzo Leep to Legit Trip, IULY.B, and some triple action from Raphael Scemama, Antoine Quesnel & Tournissoux. Let’s dig in.
Where to start than with Gunnter’s shimmering groover “KAS”. With releases on AKU as well as Rutilance Records and Courtesy of Balance he is well-versed in the lush feel feel-good banger style that this bomb benefits from. Upfront drums and sizzling hi-hats keep the rhythm going while the breathy vocals and bubbling bassline ensure that energy levels never dip. This is MO of the label, and Gunnter hits it perfectly.
Special mention goes to squeak funk of Hanfry Martinez & Carlos Sanchez and “Raykorg”, the slinky noodlings of Constratti and “Groove Control” and the crunchy breaks of “Groove Control” from Constratti. Moving on to the micro love from Raphael Scemama, Antoine Quesnel & Tournissoux and “We Know When To” and they certainly do as more and more hot works emerge from this impressive crew of producers.
Homeboy Enzo Leep delivers the good as always with a vibe-heavy creation on “Granada”, Charlie Iapicone adds in “Show Trip” with a large dose of bass, and Raphael Scemama returns in solo mode with the stripped back “Destiny”. Lose Endz returns to our pages once again providing a smattering of acid on “Black Music”, Crane de Poule sneaks in the electro breaks of “Eternara”, while Elvi rounds up the release with “Unlikely” and while we have merely paraphrased this massive release there is so much great music to sink your teeth into here. Having checked in for their 20th release it is clear to see that Dreams On Wax have not lost sight of their mission to put out quality music from emerging and established talent.
