After the huge late summer bomb DJ Rame that dropped on Memento Records, label boss Idriss D returns with another edition of the long running imprint. Penned by the man himself, Idriss delivers a stripped back banger with remixes from Munir Nadir and Marc Houle.
We kick off with the original version of “Oct 13” from Idriss and the mean bass tones signal the level of intent here from the outset. A menacingly bubbling bassline soon adds to the tension along with clipped percussion that appears to fall apart but always rebuilds itself just in time. The nicely gated rap-style vocal adds even more attitude to the mix and the end result is a swaggering bomb that is primed for the more serious floors.
Munir Nadir is up next to reinterpret “Oct 13” and the source material perfectly suits his robust upfront style. Stripping out the track even further, Munir adds in room filling claps and even more chopping effects to the vocal before the arrival of a bombastic acid bassline. Allowing the vocal to run throughout the track adds outrageous movement and rhythms and space for Munir’s bassline idea to evolve into a monstrous motif.
Known for his genre defining work in the minimal techno sphere, Marc Houle is up next. Taking Munir’s bass idea several steps further, he warps and detunes the track until it progresses into an even more peak time weapon. Utilising select sections from the vocal snips as part of his new groove, Marc turns in a glitched out bomb that helps the EP cover a huge range of moods and dancefloor moments.
