Specialising in the deeper more dubbier side of minimal, what started as a vinyl-only label has since seen Floorpiece branch out to include a digital-only imprint. The landmark 25th release from Floorpiece Digital by JNJS aka Spaniards Jay Nortown and Jacobo Saavedra comes in the form of the ‘Bertron’ EP and we have the exclusive full listen of track ‘Feeder’.
In keeping with the dub infused avenue that the label is currently treading ‘Feeder’ is a deep as you like meander through twilight deep tech house with forlorn pads, blooming drones, and skipping hats. Wiggling effects and chilled out atmospherics place this firmly in after-hours territory but with the addition of snappy drums and incoherent vocal snips mean this track is certainly no snoozefest.
The title track ‘Bertron’ is significantly more upbeat but still benefits from the blissed-out electronics found in ‘Feeder’. The bounding bassline and spacey sound motifs ramp up things considerably and set the tone for the remainder of the EP. Felipe Bravo takes this notion and drives the bassline further extracting a much tougher remix from ‘Bertron’. Finishing with the third original track of the release ‘Rain After Sun’ the combined efforts of JNJS turn out a rather tasty warped dancefloor bomb. Floorpiece has several top vinyl-only releases in their discography and they prove that going digital does not mean that the quality of the music dissipates as this is another top release from the Welsh imprint.
