Two highly seasoned tastemakers join forces for the Blkmarket Music’s fifth output. You might remember the label from a Craig Richards’ EPs we premiered in 2019, containing long lost tracks with remixes
The former Brooklyn-based and now Miami transplant label founder Taimur invites electro innovator Gosub for this collaborative EP. Both artists with Brooklyn roots have been crafting their expressive electro-influenced sound since the early 2000s. Bringing together infectious rhythms with a mean attitude, this fresh experiment hosts a fierce palate of dance floor heat.
Menacing basslines dominate eerie, hypnotic atmospheres scattered with fast hack and slash drum machine patterns throughout the release. The premiered B2 ‘Phi’ is the most reduced of the four. A subtle paranoid screech-like sequence scurries above simple, moreish acid fringes heard in much of Gosub’s early work.
Crisp open hats add a playful attitude to the track. Arching somewhere in-between house, techno and electro, the snappy 4/4 percussive work in ‘Phi’ lends itself to the market of fans of the likes of Nicolas Lutz and Craig Richards, as well as more purist electro in the form of Drexciya, James Shinra, etc.
Every contribution to the EP offers strong, emotive dance floor moods, blending slick acid workouts with spiky, enigmatic patterns. Both artists have been honing this often dystopian, highly charged rave spirit for over two decades and continue to bring innovative directions to each release.
Released on 10th February 2020, you can grab the record at Juno
