I’m really hoping that you’re hungry since…
…we’re having some fine piece of Kyiv cake here, because the Kyiv-based O’FortyFour (also known as Pahatam), is debuting at the Kyiv-based Amanita Gems label, run by Kyiv-based artists Trippsy and Sasha Zlykh. The beautiful artwork of this release is made by the Kyiv-based artist and illustrator Love Curly. The record is called “Prichal EP” which sends us to the Lesnoy Prichal of Closer (you-know-where-it-is-based) and the last not-really-fun fact here will be that the name O’FourtyFour is hiding the Kyiv city phone code inside.
There were some rumors about some new music, made by Pahatam this year, which were recently confirmed by Noizar from Wicked Bass label, when he mentioned the dubplate with the EP that circulated between them earlier this year. If you were waiting for it – I can just imagine how happy you are now.
Our today’s track “Private Eye” is easily the most banging one here and the only reason why it still hasn’t ruined my history of scrobbling at Last.fm (yes, I’m THAT old) – is the missing metadata in the file. The catchiest melody of this year, additional storylines here and there and the bassline that was made in heaven. I can’t remember being so happy about the track I’m hearing for the first time, honestly.
And this is not the only good one here. The A1 was presented to me during our spontaneous summer B3B with him and Mike Trofimov with an intriguing smile and a phrase “let me show you some of my hidden stuff” (and I can’t remember when an introduction like that led into something bad). “Smudge Funk” is a chunky piece of UK-influenced house, which is not a surprise if you know what music Pahatam is into (or at least saw him wearing a Real Deal Records t-shirt). “Snide Chains” is the deepest and the calmest track of this release with its broken structure (still can feel some Len Lewis’ vibes here). “Night Dawn” with its dark and trippy mood does its job very well – and it had only one job really – to make you dance.
Pre-sale should be starting soon – and you better rush since this Kyiv-based stuff is not really planning to lay on the shelves of the stores for a long time.
