Today we have one of my favorite types of premieres – the start of a new label. AMI Records from Amsterdam welcomes a duo of brothers, called MASI (also from Amsterdam) on the journey between electro and minimal for their debut release. Leaning towards minimal, especially our today’s premiere.
The last track on the record, called “No Hook” is, probably, one of the best examples of that type of stuff people used to call “tools”. Five minutes of stable, energetic, but still a bit laid back cruising. The base for almost every track in your collection, is a good companion for probably any acapella you have. But with the type of bassline, like here, also good for playing without anyone’s help. This one should be very busy during this season (I played it twice already).
The record opener, “Orion”, adds a little melodic touch to all that was mentioned before. Somehow, with all those dreamy pads, the track feels even a little bit more energetic than B2. It’s probably due to the acid pieces in the track. Because in “Alpha Centauri”, the calmest track on the record, we don’t have those and the difference is felt immediately. People on festivals like Sunwaves, will probably get ecstatic on this type of slow and deep banger.
You can turn the debut of this young label into the first sold-out. Just go to Juno, Deejay, Small Black Dots or wherever you’re buying your wax. The release should happen VERY soon.
